All About Lumos Custom Fit Whitening Trays

The name says it all. Custom fit teeth whitening trays are custom-made, hand-crafted trays based on a mold of your mouth. They're reusable trays that you fill with teeth bleaching gel and wear on your teeth in the comfort of your home, whitening at your own convenience. When a whitening tray is custom fit to your mouth it ensures that the teeth whitening gel adheres to your unique tooth structure for the duration of each whitening session yielding even, consistent and lasting results.

    Lumos Teeth Whitening Gels

The gel used for teeth bleaching contains an ingredient that opens the pores in the tooth, allowing the bleaching agent to seep through the outermost surface of the tooth called enamel and reach the innermost layer, dentin. The oxygen molecules in the bleaching agent break down the molecules that cause stains, revealing the natural color of the tooth. It may take several applications before all the stains are gone.

    Is Teeth Whitening Safe?

Yes, teeth whitening is safe for adults and older teens when administered correctly. The best way to whiten teeth at home is by using custom-fit whitening trays and following the instructions carefully. All Lumos teeth whitening products use FDA-approved, clinically effective ingredients that are safe and effective when used as directed.

Does Teeth Whitening Cause Tooth Sensitivity?

Tooth sensitivity is a potential temporary side effect of teeth whitening and is most commonly caused by the bleaching agent used to whiten teeth, exposing the microtubules on the outermost surface of teeth. These tubules, called dentinal tubules, are microscopic channels that lead from the surface of the enamel to the center of the pulp, where the dental nerves are housed. When dentinal tubules are exposed, dental sensitivity will increase. Minerals generally replenish on the teeth within a few days of teeth whitening, and once the minerals are restored, tooth sensitivity typically resolves.

How Long Does Teeth Whitening Last?

Custom-fit teeth whitening trays are more effective than any other teeth whitening product on the market. Most people will see results for up to a year, but if you drink a lot of coffee or tea or frequently indulge in other habits that cause teeth stains, you may only be able to keep your smile white for a few months. To maintain your results, you can use your kit monthly.

The teeth whitening process takes time and results may not be immediately visible. Whitening gel does not prevent new stains, but rather removes existing stains. Maintaining good dental hygiene is key to making teeth whitening results last. Most people will begin to see results within the first few days of a one week session.

How Long To Whiten Your Teeth

To begin whitening your teeth start with applications of 45 minutes to 1 hour, and gradually work your way up to applications of approximately 2 hours as your teeth are comfortable. 45 mins - 2 hours. If you have sensitive teeth, we recommend starting with shorter sessions and using the Lumos Desensitizing Gel for 20 minutes after each whitening application. For best results, use Lumos Smile 5-7 days consecutively for your initial treatment and for maintenance. We recommend 2-3 applications per month after your initial treatment.

What To Avoid After Teeth Whitening

Avoid dark foods and liquids for 24-48 hours after whitening your teeth. This is because the pores of your tooth structure will take a little while to seal back up. If a food or liquid can stain a white t-shirt, it can also stain your teeth. It’s best to avoid dark foods and liquids for at least a week when you complete your whitening treatment.
